The 1st part of the story is that God loves you. He created you perfectly and in His image. You are exactly the way He intended you to be. He knows how many hairs are on your head and He knew your name before you were ever conceived. He had a specific plan in mind when he dreamed of you and you were created just for that purpose. He saw you and loved you before your parents even knew you! He is waiting for you to open your heart so He can fill that empty place inside that just won't go away....you know the one. If you're like me, you may have tried money, popularity, career, and more....none of it will make that empty place go away. The reason is that we are cursed because of our choice to sin.
You see, God created the world and everything in it. He then created Adam & Eve. Because He loves them, He gave them a choice, instead of forcing them to obey & love Him. They sinned against God and every generation since them has also sinned. That includes you & me. The Bible (which is the written Word of God) says that "we all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God". The Bible also states in very certain terms that the "wages of sin is death". Basically this means we have all done something evil at some point in our lives. Have you ever told a lie, cheated on a test, stolen something that didn't belong to you, lusted after another person, or dishonored your parents? Welcome to the club...we all have. God is clear about this. Our actions have consequences, and sin has a very drastic consequence. The Bible says that if we have sinned, we deserve to spend eternity separated from God in a place called Hell. The Bible describes it as a place of torment.
The rest of the story is that God didn't intend for us to spend eternity separated from Him. He wants to have a deeply personal relationship with you. He wanted this so much that He paid the ultimate price. He made a huge sacrifice by sending His only Son, Jesus, to come to the earth and pay the price that we all owe. He lived a perfect life and never sinned; thus, he didn't deserve to die. Still, He allowed Himself to be arrested, tortured, beaten, spit on, slapped, ridiculed, and crucified on a cross for all of our sins. He rose from the dead three days later and is now seated at the right hand of God. This is the great news! You no longer have to spend eternity in Hell completely separated from God. The Word says that all we have to do is believe in God's Son Jesus, that he died for us and rose again, and ask for His forgiveness and He will wash us as white as snow. He will enter into our hearts and make us a new creation. In fact, Jesus called this being "born again". He loves us so much that He pursues us continually, even though we turn Him down again and again. He loves you more than you know and wants to share that Love with you. He is standing at the door to your heart knocking....just begging you to open the door. Will you open it? Or will you turn Him away once again?
Many say, I believe in Jesus...isn't that enough? Belief in Jesus isn't enough. Even demons believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus commands us to believe, but also to repent. Repentance is a complete turning away from sin. God calls us to search ourselves and understand that we've broken God's law, and that we can never live up to His standard, which is holiness. That's why we need Jesus. When we come to that point of understanding that we deserve Hell, then we cast ourselves on the mercy of God and ask for forgiveness through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
If you believe in Jesus, that he died and rose again, and want to accept Him as the Lord & Savior of your life, please take a moment and pray this simple prayer:
Dear God, I know I am not a perfect person. I have broken your law and I know that breaks your heart and that I deserve your punishment. I don't want to be separated from you anymore. I don't want to live my life without you. I want to spend eternity with you. Please forgive me and make me a new creation. Please come into my heart and be the Lord of my life. Teach me to be the man/woman that you created me to be. I want to follow you from now on. I want to live a life that gives glory to you. I want you to be the Lord of my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
The prayer isn't what saves us. God wants us to humble ourselves before Him and ask for His salvation. The point is to understand our condition and ask God to help fix it. If you have questions about what it means to be a follower of Jesus, we want to pray for you and get you in contact with others who believe the same as you do. Please contact us.
